Archery Team Places 4th in Anamosa

The Mount Vernon Archery Club had its best start in club history by all teams scoring over 3000 points Saturday at Anamosa. The high school team scored 3112, only one point below their club high, and placed 4th.

Macon took sole high school team honors by placing 6th for the boys and set a new Mount Vernon club high school boys record with 284.

Other top archers for Mount Vernon were Cheyenne Yerkes with 265, Kari Tanberg with 264, Gage Lochner with 273, Drew Keller with a 268 in the high school division.

The Mount Vernon Club had its strongest start since the club began in 2008. The club looks to set new highs for club scores and personal bests. Of the new archery club members, 34 improved their scores from the first shoot in December and 20 returning archers posted personal best scores.

The Mount Vernon Archery Club will be welcoming over 800 archers to Iowa’s largest NASP Tournament on Saturday, January 12, 2013. The tournament competition will be heating up at the Cornell College Small Indoor Sports Arena. The event starts at 8 a.m. with more than 100 archers lining up to shoot for top honors in 3 team divisions and 6 individual honors. The tournament culminates in the afternoon with awards presentations after the last flight. Entrance is $2 students and $3 adults.
