On Saturday, Sept. 19, th
e Mount Vernon High School will hold its annual homecoming dance from 9 p.m. to midnight in the high school commons. Photos will be taken from 9:00 to 10:30 p.m. This year, instead of paying for a DJ, senior Matt HermsenWhite will be playing the music at the dance. While it may not seem like a large deal, it saves the student council up to $400 per event by not having to hire a DJ. The entire unit cost around $800. “It was a large upfront cost that we had to consider, but it ended up paying for itself in two uses,” said Mr Timm, who was in charge of purchasing the sound system.
Chaperoning the dance will be Mr. Brand, Mr. Thede, Mrs. Massey, and Ms. Beran. All proceeds go directly to the student council for use on such things as the TVs in the commons and drinking fountains.
