Band Director Alan Kiser announced the band award winners at the concert May 3. Senior Stephen Gruber-Miller was awarded the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award for being an outstanding jazz musician. The award is based on “years of participation, dedication, musicianship, and performing improvised solos with the group,” and is awarded around the country.
Seniors Abigail Chihak and Khloe Rand were honored with the Patrick S. Gilmore Award based on their “dedication to the band program, outstanding musicianship as well as helping the entire band program succeed by working behind the scenes.”
The John Philip Sousa Award was given to Senior Polly Carrico for “superior musicianship and outstanding dedication.” This award is given around the country to the top band student at each high school. Award descriptions were taken from the band program.
