Mat Zobac has been interested in music ever since he was a kid. His music career has taken him from the classrooms at MVHS all the way to streets of Mount Vernon. His musical career really started to take off, when he was in eighth grade.

Thought out his career he has had many interesting experiences. One of his many interesting memories with his guitar is when his sister sat on his guitar. “I cried for hours until my parents finally calmed me down,” he said.

Into his teenage years he learned how to play a variety of guitars, the ukulele, and many other instruments. This fascination in music lead to him composing his own music and then later, posting videos of him playing his songs online. He posts these original works on Instagram for everyone to view, critique and enjoy. His first recorded song was posted to Instagram on April 10, 2015, and since then, he has posted over 15 recordings of himself performing.

“I guess you could say that it’s been one of the biggest influences on my life since my parents,” he said.

Zobac focuses not only on compositing his own songs, but also on doing covers of songs that inspire his music. He hopes that one day he will be able to go into music someday or at least be able to write and compose music for other people.

Zobac has taken inspiration from genres such as Heavy Metal to Indie Alternative Rock and bands such as Slipknot and Twenty-One-Pilots. He likes to keep his lyrics darker, deeper and with meaning that usually pertains to his personal life.

“I enjoy making lyrics that pertain to my own personal life, because a lot of other people have some of the same issues that I have and that way I can make my own music relatable to other people.”
