The Marching Mustangs placed third out of eight Class 3A bands Saturday at Mount Pleasant. The 97 members of the band performed four songs at competition. Drum majors Chelsea Wallace, Tori Steiner, and Quinnie Rodman conduct and lead the band through performances on Friday nights and some Saturdays.

Wallace, a senior, has been in marching band for four years, two years as a drum major. “I’m going to be really sad when it’s over,” said Wallace, “but it’s cool to know that I was a part of building our program.” Wallace is proud of the fact that the marching band has grown from about 60 kids to nearly 100 kids this year and almost everyone has memorized their music.

The marchers, drum majors, and band director Scott Weber worked hard together for the past few months to be successful starting with their first competition, and they were able to shine a “positive light” towards the continuation of the marching season, Wallace said.

Sophomore Maddy Steen attributed the success at competition to the band’s ability to get back on track when they made a mistake.

The band received a small trophy from the successful day and according to Wallace, this is “going to be a really good year.”
