The Mount Vernon choir held an All-Sing concert Monday, March 9, in the high school gym. They held this event in order for students to show off what they learned. The event consisted of sixth through 12th grade students. This caused many people from the community to come out to support the choir.
A highlight of the evening was when the concert choir sang “Precious Lord.” For junior Natalee Jacobson, “Precious Lord” brought a lot of emotions and hard work because it was dedicated to a class of 2025 graduate who passed away in December. “We worked so hard on this piece and it was dedicated to a former band member Cyrus Johnson,” Jacobson said, “which also brought a lot of emotions.” Jacobson said she prepared herself “by going to lessons and practicing the music outside of class.”
For freshman Quinlan O’Connor, he felt the song “Dies Irae” sounded good, but unfortunately he said he felt that he performed better the day before when they practiced. “Tthe day before I actually sang the best I ever had,” he said. “I was super pumped.”
O’Connor said this choir concert was like the other ones, so he prepared for it like he always does. What he does is try and not think about it too much and relax. O’Connor said the choir is used to performing in the PAC and performing in the gym sounded off. “One thing that was bad was that we were in the gym,” he said. But overall O’Connor thinks he performed well. “I think I did well, but I couldn’t hear myself.” O’Connor said.
This event was able to show the younger kids what it’s like to perform with upperclassmen and how it’s different going from middle school choir to high school choir.
