In order to get a perfect score at a cross country meet, five of the seven varsity runners need to finish in the top five places. The Mount Vernon-Lisbon boys took it one step further, capturing first through seventh place as individuals, finishing their 5k race at Benton with a perfect score Tuesday and first place as a team.
Finishing first for MV-L, with a time of 16 minutes 33 seconds was Mount Vernon senior Jack Young. Following Jack was the rest of the MV-L boys varsity team. That consists of seniors Chase Mclaughlin, Liam Conroy and Zach Krogmann, juniors Thatcher Krob and Garrett Herring, and sophomore, David Wolfe.
Mount Vernon-Lisbon came in first with 15 total points and an average time of 16:51. They were then followed by Vinton-Shellsburg, with a total of 62 points and an average time of 17:58. Coming in third for the varsity teams was Solon, with a total of 85 points and average time of 18:34. Fourth at the meet, was Benton Community, with a total of 87 points and an average time of 18:36.
Aside from the varsity boys race, the Mount Vernon-Lisbon boys junior varsity also placed first, as did the girls varsity, while the girls junior varsity placed second.
“I hope we will carry this hard work and improvement on throughout our season, all the way to the state cross country meet,” said Conroy.
