Brawl Stars is a mobile game where Mount Vernon students join other players from anywhere in the world to achieve trophies and to level up Brawlers. We see students sitting around and playing Brawl Stars on their phones in the hallway, and even the library, relaxed, yet locked-in playing.
Brawl Stars can be a single or multiplayer game where people from around the world can come together to battle in different game modes. Players can request to join each other to rank up and push to get more trophies as they play.
Jackson Koehn, a sophomore from Mount Vernon, plays Brawl Stars and has a very strong opinion about who his favorite brawler is overall. Mico, he said because, “I like to jump around with him, and he’s really easy to push trophies with.” Most people can find their “favorite” brawler by randomly unlocking them by doing quests and opening rewards that they can do by playing matches.
Brawl Stars is not just a single mode game, there are various modes including, ranked, showdown, gem grab, and many more. “Ranked is by far the hardest game mode in Brawl Stars,” sophomore Teddy Bonewald said. “At first it doesn’t seem that hard but as you rank up you play against people who are better and in a higher rank than you.”
“Solo Showdown is my favorite game mode,” Koehn said, “because I’m able to achieve many trophies and get my brawlers better gadgets and cosmetics for my brawlers that I play with the most.”

Trophies can be achieved by playing game modes and winning matches. There are ten players in each match you play in, in most game modes. But getting into the top four in each round, players may achieve more and more trophies.
Players may get more trophies by spending money on the game to upgrade their brawler so they’re better. “Brawl Stars can be what you call Pay-To-Win,” Luke Robinson, a sophomore, said. “People can spend all their money, and max out their brawlers, which can increase damage and health of them, so it’s just an unfair advantage.”
By players spending money in the game, it can get them cosmetics, resources, and abilities. With new brawlers coming out with each season in the game it gives players a new perspective and twist on how to defeat them. This may cause players to dislike certain brawlers because they don’t know what to do when playing against them.
“Sirius is my least favorite brawler to play against, because he literally hard counters pretty much everything” Koehn said, “and he has all these clones that try to attack you and kill you but you can’t do anything about it when you’re already out of shots.”
Robinson has a different view on who his least favorite brawler is and why he thinks this way. “Frank is my least favorite brawler, simply he is just way too overpowered with his health and the way he has his damage.”

Even when players might dislike brawlers they don’t quit just because of this reason. Players continue to play with their friends throughout the world and the school. “I like to play with my friends and level up all my brawlers and play with them all.” Koehn said.
As players are able to level their brawlers up they are also able to look at the leader board to see who has the highest trophies with that certain brawler. Most people would think that there is a certain amount of trophies you can get for a brawler, but players can achieve as many trophies as they can.
“I have been able to grind lots of trophies with many of my brawlers and it can be very hard” Koehn says, “but the most trophies I have with one is 2,000 trophies with my favorite brawler Mico.”
Once you hit 1,000 to 2,000 trophies with a brawler the games you play get a lot harder than normal games and it can be very challenging, but Koehn has a different opinion “Brawl Stars is just so much fun!”
It is with games like this that brings students at Mount Vernon drawn closer together as they have to learn how to strategize and work together to win more games and learn new things at the same time.
