The Mount Vernon High School Speech Team sent 27 students to the large group state competition last Saturday at Cedar Rapids Washington. Five groups received three division one ratings, two groups received an overall division one rating, and two groups received two division two and one division one rating. All-State will be decided within the next few days and will occur in Ames on February 18th. The team is coached by Grant Freeman, assisted by Amy White.
Five Groups received perfect scores (Three division one ratings):
One Act: “God of Carnage” Seamus Taylor, Kaitlin Thune, Leeann Oelrich, and Connett Croghan
Ensemble Acting: “The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre” Zak Moran and Annabeth Lucas
Musical Theatre: “Jekyll & Hyde” Alex Doser, Katy McCollum, and Hannah Ganzel
Musical Theatre: “Little Shop of Horrors” Seamus Taylor, Kaitlin Thune, Brandon Douglas, Sydney Pratt, Lucy Conroy, and Emma Conroy
Group Improv: Connett Croghan, Zak Moran, Alex Doser
