Drama Provides Outlet For Creativity

There are many English class electives but the one that stands out the most above all the rest is Drama and Interpretation. Drama allows students to open themselves up and be free from any criticism from their peers. It gives students a creative space that allows them to work on their acting skills and express themselves. The class is taught by Leigh Ann Erikson and is assisted by Grant Freeman.

Constantly in Drama, students are told that they don’t need to feel that they are being judged and that, no matter how goofy it may look, to keep going with it because that’s what drama is all about.

“It’s creative freedom. It allows me to be free and express myself and know that no one in the room will judge me for anything that I do,” said sophomore Sara De La Rosa.

“It makes me smile. It’s just a really fun-loving environment and there is so much positive energy,” said junior Sydney Ulch.

For some of the other students like Mat Zobac and Jeremy Ferguson, they have been involved in theatre or speech performances before. Some students take it just to see what speech would be like and it’s a great basis for them to get started. It teaches the students all of the most key aspects of drama for them to be able to go out and perform.

“I love theatre and the class allows me to do theatre every day which makes me enjoy the class so much more,” said senior Mat Zobac.

At the end of the class, students are tasked with using all of the theatre and drama knowledge to be able to create a play and perform it for anyone that wants to come. Most of the performances have been a school parody of some kind. Although that could change at any time and be a whole new and amazing performance.
