The Mount Vernon Boys Basketball team faced the Dyersville-Beckman Blazers. The two teams were closely matched going into the game. Neither of the two teams were able to pull away throughout the game. At the end of the third, they were tied, 43 to 43.
The Mustangs trailed by three with 42 seconds left to play in the game. After senior Cale Snedden was fouled twice, shooting free throws to bring the game within one, there were 10 seconds left. In a crunch time effort, the Mustangs put the ball in the hands of freshmen Keaton Kutcher. Kutcher missed the first shot.
The Mustangs got the rebound and dished the ball to senior Nick Leopold. He shoots, he scores.
The student section stormed the court, not realizing there was still .8 seconds left after a quick Beckman timeout. People cleared the court and the teams prepared for one last play. It was a missed pass that just put the game out of reach for the Blazers, the Mustangs won, 57 to 56.
