On April 10, former Cold War Spy Werner Juretzko spoke to Mount Vernon about his experiences. He went into detail about being a prisoner, how the war affected him, and told us what a spy is and what they do. As a child, he lived in Poland learning Polish,German, and English. Then, once old enough went into gathering intelligence for the United State. Eventually another spy leaked his name and he was arrested. Juretzo spent six years in prison and eventually made it out unlike many of his other friends. In the prison he went through various types of torture such as standing for hours on end, being extremely hot or cold, going without sun for weeks, and being fed salty food without water. Juretzko is also a author of one book, Years Without Hope. Today he Cold War historian and he helps spreads knowledge on being a spy and the Cold War.
