The Mustangs beat rival, Solon, in the first round of regional play on Wed., Oct. 19 in three sets.
A quick start for the Mustangs in set one got them up 8-2. Their intense play carried them to their first win against the Spartans with a score of 25-14.
The second set started close with an early 6-5 lead, which then extended to 20-11. After a few points, the Mustangs clinched the win in set two, one step closer to beating their rivals.
The Mustangs capped it off with a 25-7 win ending the night with 35 kills, 65 digs, and an ace each for seniors Sydney Meeker and Wynne Vandersall. Vandersall led the team with 11 kills, and Libby Ryan led the team with 20 digs.
The win “brought confidence for us to do better and stay motivated in the postseason. It keeps us going toward our big goal of making it to state,” said setter Bailey Sullivan, a junior. The Mustangs advance to the semifinals where they face the Williamsburg Raiders. The game will take place Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon.
