Candle Light Ceremony for Jacob Hanson Tonight

Signs like this cropped up on Thursday to help students cope with their loss of a friend. Students carried the notes of support and friendship, and some even taped them to their bodies.

A candle light prayer gathering for students will be held from 4-6 p.m. tonight at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church for Jacob Hanson. Below is his obituary from http://www.morganfuneralchoices.com/

Jacob Tyler Hanson, 16, of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, November 18, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services for Jacob will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church by Doctor Frank Seydel and Pastor Becky High. Jacob’s visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., Saturday at the Church. The burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Surviving Jacob are his parents Rob and Jaimie Hanson; a brother Joshua “Speedy” all of Mount Vernon; paternal grandparents Gerald and Vicki Hanson of rural Parnell; maternal grandmother Jan Keeth of Houston, Texas; maternal great grandmother Pattie Keeth of La Feria, Texas; two uncles: Jon (Lisa) Sutter and their daughter Madison; and Jeff Sutter.

Preceding Jacob in death were paternal great grandparents Victor and Vera Mohr and Clement and Catherine Hanson, and a maternal great grandfather Dalton Keeth.
Jake was born August 4, 1994, in Houston, Texas. He was a junior at Mount Vernon High School where he played saxophone in the Band and Jazz Band. He participated on the wrestling team. Jake was a member of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.

Jake’s smile, laughter, and sense of humor have always been contagious and will be forever missed by his family, friends, and community. The miracle of Jacob’s life will continue on through the many who will be helped by his medical donations.
A memorial fund in Jacob’s honor has been established.
