Every year, some sophomores and juniors choose to take more than one science or math class at a time in order to excel as they move through high school. Some say it allows them to take five years of science, including Physics, and others say it frees up their schedule for their junior and senior year.
Any student looking to go into STEM careers are encouraged to consider doubling up on classes. Sophomore Emily Friedman is glad she made the decision to double up in math, because now she is able to take Calculus her senior year. “If you have the work ethic and are passionate about learning, then you should definitely double up on classes,” Friedman explains. Friedman also had an easier time in Algebra 2 than many students, because Algebra 1 was still fresh on her mind.
Sophomore Clarissa Player, however, wishes she didn’t double up on her science classes this year, because she had to quit choir in order to so. “You can easily do it junior or senior year without having to give up something you love,” Player said. Students must consider their schedules all four years when making this decision to be sure it is the right one.
Sophomore Kate Liberko said, “It is always a good idea to get ahead when you can, and I suggest taking as many classes as you can, as long as you are interested.” One thing that all three students agree on is that it is very important to get involved in what you are passionate about.
