The homecoming game is seen to many as the most important game of the year. “The homecoming game is a must win, because if you don’t win then the dance isn’t as fun,” said senior kicker Bennett Hharp.
The Mustangs blew out Mount Pleasant 59-0. The defense put up an incredible performance with Jase Jaspers getting two interceptions and taking one all the way for a pix 6. Jaspers also had 2 sacks during the game adding to his impressive season so far. Jase was only a stand out on defense but also on special teams returning 3 punts for a total of 75 yards putting the stangs in great field position for offense.
“When you have a defense like ours it’s hard not to be grateful for them,” junior quarterback Kellen Haverback said. Haverback had 3 passing touchdowns with 107 yards. “It wasn’t the most impressive game, but at the end of the day the only thing I’m looking to do is win and have some fun doing it.”
After that win the Mustangs improved their record to 4-1. “ Getting a win like that after our first loss is great for the team’s confidence and just a real energy and morale boost,” stated senior wide receiver Cole Thurn. Thurn also had his first catch this season during the game for 9 yards.
During the 4th quarter the backs ups went in the game. Sophomore Tommy Rhomberg went in at QB and led the team down field for his first career passing touchdown. Rhomberg’s pass was caught by junior William Goodlove for his first touchdown of the season.
The Mustangs play the Assumption Knights on Friday looking to add another win to their record.
