Three students from The Mustang Moon staff won recognition at the 2011 Spring Newspaper Contest put on by the Iowa High School Press Association. Stories and photos from the print version of the newspaper were submitted for competition with other schools statewide. Kaitlin Greif won 3rd place for a news story for “Exchange Students from Egypt Voice Opinions.” For the story, she interviewed Mohamed Kassem and Dolagy Khalil after President Hosni Mubarak had stepped down from 30 years of autocratic rule in Egypt. Kyla Rand won honorable mention for her news story “Our Lunch Program Captures Attention of Other Districts.” A version of this story is on our website at https://themustangmoon.com/?p=572. Kyla Rand also won 3rd Place in Feature Stories for “Cheer Team’s Voice Grows.”
Ashley Ruden won 2nd Place Sports Photo for her football photo which can be seen below. The judge’s comments for the photo were that the photo had a lot of action and “night photos can be difficult to get even with today’s technology.
