Persistent is the best word to describe junior Jeremy Ferguson. Every day he spends hours perfecting the pieces of music he intends on performing at All-State this year. “I decided to audition on the piano for All-State instead of choir because I wanted to expand my horizons and try something new,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson started playing the piano ten years ago at age six not knowing what would come of it. He had heard other people playing the instrument and fell in love with the beautiful sounds it was capable of making. One of Ferguson’s favorite parts of playing the piano is the feeling of accomplishment that comes with successfully playing a difficult section of a song for the first time.

A few of the pieces he is auditioning with are “America the Beautiful,” “Cindy,” and “Morning Sun Upon the Wild Prairie Rose.” “My least favorite part of playing the piano is when I am just starting to learn a piece and having trouble playing a lot of sections,” Ferguson said, though he does enjoy a good challenge.

Playing the piano is just one of the several activities Ferguson is a part of, and he is hoping to have major success auditioning this year.
