Mount Vernon had an extraordinary spirit dress up week, with outfits you wouldn’t normally see or wear regularly. Each day there are normally 2 winners but this year they couldn’t decide to complete so they just picked one person for a few of the days. The student council decides who is best dressed for that theme of the day. This year there are only 6 winners being Chester Rood, Danny Dye, Kate Martin, Emery Willems, Elena Gehrke, Nathan Conrad and Natalie Glaister. Even though the students are the only ones who become winners, most teachers do participate and make the week even more exciting.
On Monday morning no one was wearing the normal sweatshirt and sweat pants like they normally do. There were people dressed up in many different types of pajamas. From basic pajama pants to silk PJs and slippers. The winner, Chester Rood, junior, wore a very crazy set of PJs that he covered in a robe. This was enough to get all the members to vote for him to win that day. This type of planning throughout the weekend was critical in order to show up on a Monday morning and be the first winner to start out the week.
The next day, Tuesday, was a completely different idea. People walked around dressed like different movie characters such as characters from Frozen and other Disney movies. The winners of this day were Danny Dye and Kate Martin who are both sophomores. “Throughout the day the student council is going around looking for people who put in the most effort for each of the dress up days. This year it was hard to pick only two for movie character day because there were so many good options, but eventually we were able to narrow it down,” said Lexi Glaza, student council member. This was a very cool way to see everyone’s ideas on what movies to do and who they could collaborate with to really put the whole costume together.
Wednesday was yet again another crazy surprise that everyone saw when attending school. Unlike any other Wednesday, no one’s outfits matched or even looked planned, which makes sense because the theme was fashion disaster. The winner of this day was sophomore Emery Willems and the goal for today was to basically have nothing to match. “We voted for her because she was clashing with different styles of clothing and it was a classic fashion disaster” said Clara who attends the student council. Willems wore everything perfect in order to be the best at fashion disaster.
Thursday brought yet another surprise, season day. All the different grades had different assigned seasons which made it way more interesting. Freshmen were assigned winter, sophomores were assigned fall, juniors were assigned spring, and seniors were assigned summer. The winner of this day was Elena Gehrke, a senior, and she wore a selfmade sun with pipe cleaners around her face to be the sun. This was a great way to show a creative side to the Mount Vernon spirit week.
Finally Friday came, which was spirit day. Every Friday of spirit week is always spirit day where everyone dresses up in Mount Vernon attire to support school spirit. The winner of this day was Natalie Glasier, a junior. She had the best school spirit along with Nathan Conrad, senior, who brought a microwave for everything but a backpack. He thought of a great idea to put all of his belongings in a microwave and carry it around for a school day. This was such a great way to end off spirit week and complete the assigned dress up day.
