As school picks up, many students have just three things on their minds: how hard school is going to be, I wonder who is in my classes, and homecoming. With the parade comes a lot of preparation; everyone gets floats together, and the marching band gets ready to play the fight song. Everyone wants to see. But that’s not everything that happens with this parade.
Sophomore Andrew Errington was on the football float, and players prepared by loading up on candy. “I can’t wait to throw candy at young children and watch them grab it,” he said. “It’s always so fun to see the children having fun.” It really is a magical moment that brings everyone together on one specific topic, and its purpose is mainly just to have fun.
As for the length of the parade, it wasn’t as long as it was last year. “It was kinda underwhelming to stop halfway through right at the field,” Errington said. The route consisted of starting at the entrance of the elementary school parking lot, and made its way around to Stonebrook, but instead of continuing to the front entrance to the high school by the LBC, the parade turned from College Boulevard to 13th Ave. South and east into the MAC.
Leading the parade was the marching band. Mya Stoner, a senior, said that she always looks forward to the parade, “Ever since watching my older brother being on the football float, and even when I joined the band, it’s always something that brings everyone together.” It is always a great experience to be able to go from watching the parade to being in it.
