The Annual Powder Puff Game took place on Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Martha Parsons Activity Center. The Bikers, consisting of the senior and sophomore class, faced off against the freshman and junior class, the Surfers. Senior Head Coach Kellen Haverback’s message to his team was, ”Just play hard and have fun, that’s the name of the game. We’re looking for a 4-peat as seniors, so we’re definitely going for that.” The pressure was on for the Bikers to keep the streak alive and for the Surfers to break the streak.
The Bikers jumped out to an early lead when sophomore Savanna Wright scored a 45-yard touchdown run on a reverse play. Followed by a 4-and-out drive for the Surfers. The Bikers held on to their lead with a 52-yard run by Taylor Franck. The Surfers answered back, though, capping an 80-yard touchdown drive with a pass from Freshman Kinley Nissen to Junior Lucy Wishmeyer.
Just before halftime, both teams scored multiple long touchdowns. At halftime, the Bikers led the Surfers 26 to 18. The Surfers started on offense to start the second half and were shut out. The Bikers got the ball and quickly scored with a 53-yard pass from Courtney to Taylor Franck. The Surfers answered back with an 80-yard run from freshman Courtney Thurn. Both teams played hard and continued their game plan. As the game clock continued to wind down, the Surfers knew they needed to make something happen quickly. The Surfers had the ball at their own 20-yard line with only a few minutes left to go. When Nissen connected on an 80-yard touchdown pass to fellow freshman Courtney Thurn.
Despite the Efforts from the Surfers. The Franck twins and the Bikers squad ultimately were too much for the Surfers team and won with a final score of 50-32. “I thought our team played really hard,” said junior head coach Jakob Yock. “We focused a lot more on our offense than defense, and I think it showed; they were just the overall better team,” said Yock.
But the big story of the night had to be the Franck twins. Being a problem all night for the Surfer team and both contributing to the majority of the points for the Bikers team. When asked what her favorite moment from the game was, senior Courtney Franck said her favorite moments were, “scoring all those touchdowns. It’s really good when we’re all playing like a team, and that’s what we did. Also, it’s really cool to 4-peat as seniors and beat these losers.”
