Mount Vernon students walked out of their classes in protest of gun violence at noon today. The walkout was organized by senior Korah Jo Robinson, who argued that government officials should be taking more action to protect children in school from gun violence. The protest was one of many held across the nation by the group Students Demand Action.
Several other students spoke in order to share their feelings and to honor the victims of school shootings by reading off their names and holding a mass prayer. Ideas were shared about ways to better protect schools.
Members of the group Students Demand Action encourage students to text “BAN” to 644-33 to demand that elected officials support an assault weapons ban and join the movement.
