Mount Vernon High School’s annual homecoming coronation took place after the homecoming parade on Thursday, Oct. 7. Jacob Russell and Anna Hoffman, were elected to represent the senior class as king and queen.

“I was not surprised at all when their names were called,” said senior homecoming queen candidate Anna Moore. “They are both very deserving of king and queen! I am glad I got to be on the court with such amazing people.”

A light rain began during the presentation and sprinkled on the crowd, increasing the drama of the announcement. But luckily the rain mostly held off until the ceremony was over.

Despite the rain, members of the homecoming court had a lot of fun being a part of the coronation ceremony. “I had a great time, and I enjoyed riding in the sweet Corvette!” Said king candidate Vance Arnold, Every year the homecoming candidates ride in Corvettes during the parade, the cars are owned and driven by members of the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club.

“It was nice to be in the parade and see the whole community coming together. Plus the cars were really cool,” said Owen Brase.
