When Leo Appleton saw the poster advertising fake injury day as a dress-up day for homecoming week, he thought how easy it would be for him to participate. This was due to Appleton’s father, Matt, who works for Invacare, which sells medical equipment like wheelchairs and portable oxygen. This gave Appleton, a sophomore, the idea of coming to school in a wheelchair. “I just saw that fake injury day would be perfect because my dad sells wheelchairs and there is always one around,” said Appleton.

 On fake injury day, Appleton was given a helping hand to really sell his ‘fake injury’ by his friend Henry Steine. Steine pushed Appleton through the halls of Mount Vernon High School in injured fashion. “I just did it because I thought it would make the injury seem more real,” said Steine.

The winners of the dress-up days for homecoming week were announced at the Mount Vernon Alumni Hall of Fame assembly on Friday, Sept. 27. The winners are given a Dilly Bar as their reward. Appleton was the winner of

the fake injury day. Monday winners were Lillie Hawker, Mrs. Tenley, and Paige Beck. Tuesday winners were Skyler Stoner, Anna Nydeger, and Sabrina Cooklin. Wednesday winners were Eli Webster and Christan Frantz. Thursday winners were Maddie Plotz, Lily Meester, and Claire Gaffney. Friday winners were Ben Hopkins and Reily Gross.
