The Production of The Drowsy Chaperone

By Jake Panos

For the 2017 spring musical,  Mount Vernon High School has chosen to perform the world famous musical known as The Drowsy Chaperone; which is written by Bob Martin and Don McKellar.  The show is about a huge musical theatre fan,  known only as the Man in the Chair,  and his favorite record and how that record came to life when he listened to it.  The record showed him the acts of a famous singer/dancer, Janet Van de Graaff,  who leaves a show to go and get married, and how Mr. Feldzieg, the shows producer, tries to get her back to perform in the show; no matter what the cost. “The show as a whole is incredibly farcical, it’s so ridiculous that it just become funnier and funnier.” says senior Lucas Moran, who plays the character of Aldolpho in the production of The Drowsy Chaperone.

Mount Vernon High School has been working on and rehearsing the musical since the middle of March and performed the show during the last few weeks of April. “Rehearsal was mostly learning music and choreography. Then while we were on stage doing normal lines, we each made our own character choices as the show progressed”, says Moran.
