Opinion By Yves Cotterill
This year the high school changed the system for getting lunch in the hope of decreasing the amount of budging in line, but did it? To find out I went through the line on Thursday and five people cut in front of me. My place was towards the end of the line when everyone got to the commons.
Class is dismissed at 11:05, and I got all the way through at 11:27, only giving me a little time to eat since fourth hour starts at 11:38. So there are two problems already that so far have not been solved. I went around the next day asking people what they thought about the new line.
After lunch I read all of the opinions I wrote down and
noticed they all said that the line was slow and really long, but none of them mentioned budging. When I went to ask seniors about their opinion, it was surprising. It appears that seniors feel they should have the right to budge. One senior, who did not want to be named, said “There is a hierarchy that needs to be understood, seniors- then the rest.”
At first, as a freshman, I thought that it was totally unfair that seniors thought that way, but after thinking for some time I changed my mind. Everyone gets a chance to be a senior, so in a way we will eventually get our turn to budge if we want to.
Even though budging is wrong, I understand their point.
