In the first quarter sophomore Daxton Recker got a pick six and scored the Mustangs’ 6 points, and Cooper Anderson kicked the extra point to put them up 7-0. “This got our defense rolling and gave us good momentum for the game,” said sophomore kicker Brendan McNeal. The Mustangs defense held the Raiders from scoring any this quarter.
In the second quarter the Raiders tried to run a pitch play on their own 10-yard line and fumbled, giving the Mustangs two points from a safety. The Raiders ended up scoring in this half by throwing a pass to their running back down the sideline on a wheel route to make the score 9-7.
In the third quarter both teams’ defenses were able to hold each other and not have any points scored.
In the fourth quarter Williamsburg scored another touchdown on a deep slant to their wide receiver. Then they went for two and converted with an out route in the corner of the end zone. This put Williamsburg up 15-9 and they did not let the Mustangs score. “Our offense was playing slow and couldn’t move the ball down the field,” said McNeal.
“Our offense just needs to be more efficient, but our defense has been pretty good so far,” sophomore Ryan Hepker said.
The Mustangs will head to Davenport Assumption next to play the Knights Oct. 6.
