Standing low in the goal is Andrew Weber, the lacrosse goalie for team True Lacrosse Illinois. Weber plays for two lacrosse teams, Kingfisher which is a Mount Vernon/Cedar Rapids team, and True Lacrosse Illinois which is a club team through the state of Illinois.
Going from state to state all around the country, almost all year around for one sport is hard, but Weber still does it. Most of his games played for the team Kingfisher are located in Ames, Ankeny, and Des Moines, Iowa, with some of his friends here at Mount Vernon. However, for his team True Lacrosse, he travels all around the country to compete in big tournaments.
Weber plays lacrosse indoors during the fall and winter with Kingfisher, and during the summer and spring he plays outdoors with True Lacrosse.
Weber started participating in lacrosse about 6 years ago because his friend Grey Denes joined a team. He decided to give it a try, and “I fell in love with the sport” he said.
He started getting more serious with the sport around two years ago and “hit the switch” he said. Weber has big goals to go to college for lacrosse and may even want to go further. Furthermore, he has colleges like Ohio State and Adelphi University taking interest in his ability to play this sport. Going to college for any sport is beyond difficult, but he is still up for the challenge and dedication it takes to get to the highest level.
One of the most memorable moments for Weber throughout his lacrosse career so far is winning a state championship three years ago with KingFisher. Winning state is a big accomplishment, and something he will remember forever.
Although lacrosse isn’t a very known sport that didn’t stop him. “God led me to this sport,” said Weber. Furthermore, he has colleges like Ohio State and Adelphi university taking interest in his ability to play this sport, his future is looking bright.
