Sophomore Cameron Poggenpohl plays golf in his free time, and he loves lifting and working out. Poggenpohl has interesting hobbies including working outside and building things for pet animals in his backyard. An interest Poggenpohl is focused on now is football.
Poggenpohl loves playing football and plays mostly for fun in his free time, at practice, and at his games. Poggenpohl plays on the varsity team at Mount Vernon High School and is on the offensive line and defensive line because of his build. Poggenpohl’s build is perfect for football being a little bulky and strong but not the fastest. His favorite part about football is “hitting people,” and his favorite people to play football with are his friends because “they drive me to keep moving.”
Poggenpohl’s closest friends and teammates include sophomores Hutson Wiesenhofer, Jackson Koehn, and Gunner Steinberg. He has made many memories with them such as “winning games” and “learning everything with them.”
Some of Poggenpohl’s favorite memories from football include winning his last two games against Keokuk and Washington his freshman year of football. “They were fun because they were great games,” he said. “One of them, it was a really close game and we won, and the other one it was a complete blowout.” He also said it was fun being on the field for varsity when they went to the UNI Dome for the State Semifinals last year.
Before each game Poggenpohl prays. Poggenpohl used to pray in a group down in the end zone but he now prays on his own. “I pray before each game which gives me an extra boost of confidence before a game,” he said.
