Seth Rushford, a sophomore at Mount Vernon has a real passion for basketball. He has been playing golf, basketball, and football but out of the three basketball is his favorite. “Out of any sport basketball is the one I’m the best at.” He and his twin brother, 16, have grown up playing basketball together. “I have my brother on the team, and it’s nice to have him there.” They have been playing basketball together since they were in first grade, and have continued to be sophomores on the varsity team.
“A lot of times we find ourselves arguing or comparing ourselves to each other, but then a lot of times it gives us something to talk about and do together.” Rushford and his brother are both on the varsity team here at Mount Vernon and having each other on the team helps them get better. Luke is the point-guard and Seth is a shooting guard. “He teaches me a lot of different moves and helps me with dribbling.” Not only is it helpful for the two to play together, Rushford also trains a fair amount outside of practice which consists of 30 minutes to an hour during the season and 3-4 hours a week during the off-season.
It’s not just his brother that makes basketball exciting for Rushford, but his other friends as well. “I’ve just enjoyed playing basketball with my friends throughout the years, and I have a lot of fun with the guys on the team.” The boys on the team all have fun together, and are able to have a good time whether it’s a win or loss. “We didn’t end up winning, but the CPU game went into triple overtime. We all had a lot of fun and by the end we had three sophomores in the game.” The team has had an exhilarating season this year, and are eager to make it even better.
