At Mount Vernon High School, the question was asked “ What are the best streaming services out there”, because every streaming service has their ups and downs. An email survey was sent out to MVHS students in November to determine what was the most popular among the district. The results show that many streaming services are used, but Netflix reigns king::

Netflix

Netflix is the most popular streaming service watched by Mount Vernon High School Students. Mostly, students enjoy the Netflix special shows that you can’t watch anywhere else, like the Jake vs Tyson fight. Also shows like “Outer Banks” and “Shameless” were popular reasons why it was ranked Number 1. Another reason was because when you buy a subscription you pay a price and there’s no option for no ads included in your subscription. Netflix is one of the cheaper options and is easiest to navigate. However, the only thing Netflix doesn’t have is a live TV option, which may be a reason people didn’t choose Netflix as their favorite streaming service, yet it still stands as one of the most popular with 41% of the votes.

Hulu

The runner up is Hulu with 13.7% of the votes. Hulu is a great option including Live TV, Movies, and even exclusives. All can be watched ad-free, even the live TV. Some students say they picked this option because Hulu offers “Family Guy” as a TV show. Some even said that Hulu has more options then all the others. The thing about Hulu is you have to pay extra to watch ad – free and it’s like triple the price of Netflix even without the ad free and live TV option. But Hulu can also replace cable and be cheaper and you get live TV and a variety of different movies and shows.

Disney Plus 

Next in line is Disney Plus with 12.3% of the votes. Disney Plus offers special movies that are part of Disney that you can’t watch anywhere else unless you rent the movie. Many people get Disney for their kids since Disney movies will keep them occupied. “Come on. Marvel, Star Wars, and all the classics from my childhood in one place! What better streaming service could you want? “ said Beck Oesterle. Many people do enjoy the older classics which may be the reason they get it. Disney Plus also comes free with most phone and cellular services.

Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime has a total of 11.7% of the votes, which is surprisingly less than Disney, since Amazon Prime video comes with Amazon Prime subscription which a lot of people have. Prime Video also doesn’t have the best variety of shows and movies that people like. “Although you [sometimes] have to purchase what you are watching, it has more options.” said freshman Leah Morse. Definitely not the worst option but because you have to still pay for movies most people don’t like it.

Max

Max TV the one really good thing about Max is that you get Hulu, Max, and Disney Plus all in one package for $16.99 a month, but you will have ads which is fine if you all three together and can basically watch every Movie, and shop you ever wanted Max got a 8.2 % of the overall vote, which isn’t terrible because a lot of people don’t even know that Max exists. One person responded to the survey saying that they like Max because it has “Batman.” “Max has so many options for movies and shows but Netflix is a close second because Netflix has a lot of movies and shows but its category is sometimes random and unorganized,” said Macie Stoops. Overall Max isn’t terrible but it’s not everyone’s favorite.

There are many other streaming services that people have access to, but the ones listed are just the most popular according to MVHS students, and really just the most popular ones out there. Everyone has their own opinion, and the results really were diverse among the options which is quite surprising. And some people have more than one, but everyone has a favorite.
