The Mount Vernon volleyball team celebrated the seniors on Tuesday night with a win in three sets against Marion. The team celebrated the seniors by giving gifts and having parents walk them out while being announced and recognized. Parents of the younger players cheered as the seniors were being honored. Players of all ages came together to thank their seniors for their attribution to the team.
Cheers came from all angles while the seniors were recognized for their hard work and dedication. In the first set Mount Vernon won 25-20, second set 25-9, and finally the third set 25-11. Senior Olivia Haverback enjoyed playing varsity on Senior Night. “It was so cool how me and Sarah could play in the game,” she said, “and I loved how the student section was so supportive and excited for us as we were gifted and recognized.”
Abbie Babcock, manager for the team, appreciated the recognition of Senior Night. “I loved how everyone cheered as the parents walked with each senior,” Babcock said. “The Mount Vernon community is so loving and welcoming towards us. I am very glad to have been a part of this community and volleyball team for so long. I appreciate everyone and everything that they have done for me.”
On Saturday Mount Vernon will be going up against three different teams at Jefferson High School. First, Waterloo East, then Grundy Center and lastly Liberty High School.
