One of the most exciting weeks of the year has come, Homecoming week. There are many fun activities that this week has to offer, dress-up days being something fun happening daily. The dress-up days for our 2024 Homecoming week are P.J. Day, Camo Day, Pink Out, Rhyme without a Reason and Spirit Day.
P.J. Day
The classic dress-up day starts homecoming week off right, P.J. day. Students wore plaid pajama pants and slippers around the hallways; some even carried stuffed animals. And for the most committed, patterned onesies. This timeless dress-up day provided a calm start to one of the most exciting weeks of the school year. Students enjoyed roaming around the school in their comfiest clothes.“It’s nice not having to get ready for school,” said senior Bennett Harp.
Camo Day
A different dress-up day than years past, it’s Camo Day. Students had great versatility on this dress-up day, students wore typical army camouflage in green, gray, brown and black. At the same time, others opted for a hunting-type camouflage, patterned with leaves and sticks. Regardless of which the students opted for, they enjoyed going all out. Some even roamed the halls in full ghillie suits, really committing to the spirit.
Senior Aundrea Luerkens enjoyed the addition of camo day to our homecoming dress-up rotation. “I love how so many people participated today, it really unified us as a school going into homecoming.”
PINK OUT
On Wednesdays we wear pink. And the students at MVHS did just that. From pink tops, bottoms, and hats students broke out their prettiest of pinks. This dress-up day allowed students to wear bright colors that they don’t wear daily. Junior Malena Koehn embraced the pink-out committedly, “I loved it, I thought it was easy and simple for everyone to do. And the pink just made everything feel like a good happy vibe.” This bright spirit day gained the approval of many students.
“We should have a pink day every Friday, I love it,” said Junior, Bella Manternach.
Rhyme Without a Reason
Students in fun costumes fill the hall, some tame, some out-of-the-box. Some student costumes were Chick-fil-A and USA, Girl Scout and Knockout, Spicy, Pricey and Icy, and Nerdy Teen and Denim Jeans. Teachers at MVHS also got in on the fun. A group of teachers had costumes of Bee, Tree, Mummy, Snap Pea, Yoshi, and Bubble Tea. Spanish teacher Erica Nichols, a part of the group, said “Señora. C started it all, she had the idea of two costumes that rhymed, and then in our super cool teacher group chat we started to brainstorm other things that could go with it.” This new dress-up day was a hit with students and teachers alike. “At first I didn’t understand because I was behind on the TikTok trend, but it was my favorite day this year,” said Nichols.
Spirit Day
The spirit in MVHS is radiating through the halls this homecoming Friday. Students are decked out in their maroon Mustang gear everywhere. Students are embracing our school spirit and getting ready for the football game tonight and the Homecoming dance on Saturday. Senior and Student Council member Sarah Esbaum said that we have Spirit Day every year because “we need to unify our school before the game and the dance, that’s what Homecoming is all about.”
