The Anthem is playing and the cannons are firing, you know what that means. The biggest game of the year: Mustangs VS Solon. Rivals since the beginning of time, with bleachers filled with audiences. Since 2008 Solon has beaten the Mustangs’ 16-2 which is impressive.
Started the game with the kick off. In the 1st quarter Solon got a touchdown with a field goal to follow making the game 7-0. Mount Vernon defense put up a good fight against longtime rivals Solon keeping them from scoring for the rest of the game. “It was mostly a defensive battle between two really good teams,”senior wide receiver Watson Krob said.
Everything was pretty much a stand still, till fourth quarterback when Kellen Haverback made a 65-yard pass to Krob and scored a touchdown with 1.53 left in the game. “ It was a good touchdown because he didn’t get double teamed and saw the touchdown coming,” Krob said.
The Mustangs decided to go for 2 points to win instead of a field goal to tie the game. The Mustangs lost their conversion attempt and the ball went back to Solon where they held onto the ball till the end game making the score 7-6.
“Mount Vernon needs some offensive work, but the defense played really well, and we will learn more from loss than win,” Krob said. Mount Vernon’s morale is down a little but still have a shot at the playoffs and get a good seed.
