As the warm summer ends Stanley Krob (17) a junior in High School talks about his fishing journey which began around the ages of 6-7 when his parents dug out a pond.
Krob and his family have cabins up in Canada so in the summer, when they don’t have sports or other activities going on they will try to go up there to fish. Krob’s favorite memory was when he was up in Canada fishing with his family and he thought he had a snag and got his hook stuck, but really it was a fish, which happened to be his biggest fish.
My favorite part about fishing is probably catching the fish,” Krob said. “You never really know what you’re going to get. Half the time you might think you have a fish but really it’s a snag.”
When Krob gets ready to go to Canada with his family he gets the essentials such as toiletries, fish food, food, drinks, and he brings a boat. If friends come along they will have to go to the store and get a few more things for the trip.
One piece of advice Krob would give a beginner angler is ”Patience is key when it comes to fishing. You don’t want to rush it when it comes to fishing; just take your time and let the fish come to you rather than scaring them away.”
The biggest fish Krob has caught is one he caught in Canada, a 30-38 inch Northern Pike. If Krob could go anywhere in the world to fish he’d go to the ocean because he’s always wanted to know how big they can get. Watching all the anglers on YouTube catching big fish thousands of feet deep into the endless blue ocean is entertaining, according to Krob.
Krob said that when it comes to bait, it depends on the fish to decide what to use.“In Canada, we use a jig head and then we use a live minnow and we would let it sink all the way down to the bottom, and then we would reel it up a little bit and you just let it sit there.” This helps keep your hook from getting snags.
When Krob fishes with friends it could turn into a small competition trying to get a bigger fish than the others. Krob doesn’t have any set goals his only goal is to get anything bigger than his previous 30-38 inch Pike. These memories with friends and families are the ones that last forever.
