Dawson Scheil, a Mount Vernon junior, starts the school year by running miles in cross country and ends the year in track.
He didn’t always run this much though; this desire came after he started track in seventh grade. Scheil got into cross country during freshman year with ease due to his experience in track. Sheil said that cross country is “like a therapy for me.” Going along with mental health, Scheil said he enjoys running on the team because he has lots of friends who enjoy it just as he does. Last year Scheil’s team placed 8th in the state cross country meet. This was a great accomplishment for him and the team.
As Scheil is running he is progressively getting better, not only mentally but physically. Family-wise, Scheils’ brother a senior of Mount Vernon also enjoys running. Scheil and his older brother love spending quality time together running through scenic Mount Vernon roadways. Watching the birds fly by, cars pass and people socialize. The wind glides through his hair, As all of this is happening Scheil is calm and collected. Cross country and running aid Schiel in many aspects of his life. When he is feeling down the thought of running helps him feel better.
For Scheil practice is not only for running, it is a therapy and social gathering. Scheil sees the friends that he has grown up with throughout his school career. These friends help make him better as well as help him keep running and power through life.
