When she checked into Cookie Run: Ovenbreak for her daily login, Jennell Searle got 15 Rainbow Cubes, which are items to upgrade her cookies and costumes. The reason for playing the game every day besides the daily benefits is that it’s fun and feeds into her competitiveness.
Searle, a senior, started playing in 2017 when her brother had asked her to play the game for him when he was busy. She has since taken control of the account. Cookie Run: Ovenbreak is an infinite runner type of game – it is 2D, and when playing, you’re only able to jump and slide; there aren’t any left-to-right movements. Occasionally, however, additional buttons may be added for specific cookie abilities or the jump/slide button may change to accommodate for these abilities. Think of Temple Run with extra steps.
Searle plays this game every day which helps her attain her level of skill. “Surprisingly, yes,” said Searle when asked if she was good at the game. Average scores for her range from 3-4 billion, but she’s managed to get all the way up to 5 billion once before. However, scores will vary from player to player. Some new players may only get 4-5 million, while more experienced players may get within the 5 billion range more easily than her.
Searle doesn’t typically play with any of her friends, but some events require you to connect online with other random people for these certain events and run together. Strategy-wise, there are a bunch of different ways to play the game. For example, if you want to earn more points by jumping then use a cookie that has special jumping abilities. Whereas, destruction cookies are more focused on destroying obstacles for more points. There are also options for using revival cookies which can be used for reviving and the magnetism cookies are used to suck up more of the coins, jellies, and power-ups, but of course, these aren’t all of the types of cookie skills there are. Some of these cookies may have combined skills, such as some destruction cookies having magnetic abilities or jelly-oriented cookies having revival abilities.
Searle has many favorite costumes for these cookies. “My favorite one would have to belong to Black Garlic Cookie,” she said, adding, “a cookie that was added in a previous update of the game.” Heavenly Streamer, Black Garlic Cookie’s exclusive costume, is one of her favorite costumes.
Some of the in-game skills transition into reality. “I believe these gaming skills help me with my hand-eye coordination as well as my rationale,” she said, adding that muscle memory is also a key role along with being able to tell if she has enough resources to upgrade her specific cookies, pets, and treasures or not.
