While the rest of Mount Vernon students had school canceled for extremely cold temeratures, the Academic Decathlon team competed at regionals at Grundy Center Jan. 26.
The overall curricular theme for this year’s competition isWater: A Most Essential Resource.
Three of the team members won individual honors: Senior Lily Booth, honors division, won a bronze in Music and a silver in Mathematics; junior Claire Gaffney, honors division, won a gold in Music and a silver in Science; and sophomore Landon Miksch, varsity division, won a bronze in Mathematics and a gold in Interview.
Coach Rich Eskelsen noted that Miksch scored a perfect 1000 in the interview and the team will find out this weekend if they advance to state.
