What It Takes to Be a Cheerleader

High School cheerleading is a time to let your team spirit shine through. But for some, it proves to be more than that. Cheerleading is a way to show your appreciation for your school while getting involved. “My favorite part of cheerleading is creating a community of people we can rely on throughout our high school career,” senior Georgia Pierce said.

But, what does it take? Cheer requires more than just physical strength and skill. It takes “a lot of dedication and commitment,” said senior cheer captain Quin Denes, “and you always have to stay positive, or else the rest of the team will perceive your negative attitude and it will rub off on them.”

To be successful in the sport, one must bear the right mentality. “It takes a positive attitude and having team spirit to be in cheer,” senior captain Kambree Hultquist said.

The team practices two or three times a week in the elementary school gym, where they learn new stunts, cheers, and continue to build their bond.
