Remerowski’s Road to Creativity
September 22, 2021
Imagine the paint-splattered everywhere, the art hung on the walls, freshly washed brushes that are now covered in molten red paint, the carpet looks like a crime scene and you look just like the culprit. That is just a normal day in the life of sophomore, Ava Remerowski.
Remerowski, 15, is a creative artist who makes TikToks showing off her art to her followers. Her posts mostly consist of her painting or cleaning her painting station. Her creativity thrives and it shows in her artwork.
“I don’t necessarily have an inspiration for art, per se,” Remerowski says, “whenever I get an idea, I just go paint it.” Remerowski paints with acrylics and sometimes sketches something out on the canvas and paints in the lines, but normally she just starts painting.
When asked about entering in competitions Remerowski said, “I’ve never entered in an art or writing competition; I don’t feel the need or want to, To me, competitions are just based on judges’ opinions; and art is subjective, so some people could find a piece to be beautiful and well done and see something in it, but to other people, it may just be some color in a strange pattern or shape or technique, and it doesn’t speak to them or look like anything–so they won’t like it. I’m not afraid of people judging my art or anything, I just don’t think I’m necessarily the next Pablo Picasso or Wassily Kandinsky; in other words, I don’t think my art is great, I just like doing it.”
While her art is shown to be beautiful, Remerowski knows what’s up about the art scene. Remerowski has a knack for creative activities. She likes to write and is working on a book! She plans on taking more classes with art teacher Bonnie Ahrens.
Remerowski stated that she is the only one in her direct family that is interested in art the way she is. She shared a story about her maternal grandmother and how she likes to paint.
“My maternal grandma used to paint with oil paints when she was a teenager,” Remerowski said, “But eventually her mom remarried after her dad died and she lost all of her oil paints and canvases and whatnot, but she decided recently that she’s going to pick it back up again.”
Remerowski took Drawing and Painting 1 in her freshman year and is taking Drawing and Painting 2 this year. Last year she also took Ceramics 2 without any prior knowledge. She has been painting since January of this year after her art final. She used the knowledge from her prior art classes to expand her painting abilities. Other than for her schoolwork Remerowski says that she wouldn’t sell her artwork and she would just do it recreationally. This is a hobby that Remerowski enjoys and plans on expanding her knowledge and continuing to paint for many years forward.
