Everyone loves watching T.V., and Mount Vernon sophomores are no exception to this. Nowadays with new streaming sites such as Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus, watching our favorite shows is even easier. There are a lot of shows available to watch but a recent email poll told what shows are most popular amongst the sophomores at MVHS.

The fifth most entertaining show is “Outer Banks.” Based in and among the islands of North Carolina, this show has teenagers hooked. The first, and only season so far, came to Netflix in April of 2020. In “Outer Banks”, the main island is separated into two groups, the pogues (the poorer side of the island), and the Kooks (the people with more wealth.) The show follows a small group of friends that are considered pogues around as they try to find answers about John B. ‘s (the ringleader of the group) dad, who mysteriously disappeared.

“I love ‘Outer Banks’ because there is a historic aspect to the show,” Claire Gaffney said. “The friend group is very adventurous and dynamic.”

Coming in next, at number four, is “Stranger Things”. This show has been widely popular since its first season came out, back in July of 2016. It is about a mysterious and sudden vanishing of a young boy in Hawkins, Virginia, in 1984. As the people of this small town look for this kid, they begin to uncover secrets about the government, portals to other worlds, and monsters.

“ I like the old houses and old cars. They got the time period spot on,” said Austin Deeb

The next best show on the list is “The Flash”. Almost everyone knows of the superhero that fights crime while running thousands of miles per hour, but did you know that CW’s, “The Flash”, is on Netflix right now. The 6 season show is one of the most popular shows on Netflix. It is about a young man named Barry Allen who works as a crime scene investigator in Central City. After getting struck by lighting he gains super speed and becomes known as The Flash.

“ I like how they talk about the science behind how fast he runs,” said Clayton Flack.

The Second most liked show amongst sophomores is “Grey’s Anatomy”. This medical drama series has 17 seasons on Netflix. It follows a group of young doctors who begin as interns at a hospital in Seattle Washington. The show’s name comes from one of the young doctors named Meredith Gray, the daughter of a famous surgeon. Nolan Jackson likes the show because of the romance and drama. “I love seeing all of the love scenes,” Jackson said. “It warms my heart.”

Lastly, The most popular show is “The Office”. This show’s first episode aired all the way back on March 24, 2005. It was not instantly popular. In fact, not many people watched it until it hit Netflix in 2011. Even then it did not become super popular until around a few years ago. Now it is known for being one of the greatest shows ever made. Over its nine seasons it has been nominated for 42 Emmys, and won a total of five. In addition, Netflix users spent 45.8 billion minutes watching the show in a 12 month time span. Its success can be attributed to the amazing characters, its unique documentary style of filming, and the comedic aspect.

“The Office” is about a paper company named Dunder Mifflin. It is about the hugely popular character Micheal Scott (a regional manager at Dunder Mifflin), and his workers. It takes you through the daily lives of the employees of a dying paper industry. Milo Olinger says he likes The Office because “It’s up to you to understand the humor; there isn’t a laughing track telling you what’s funny.”
