Varsity girls cross country took third place at the West Delaware meet on Tuesday, October 6. Going into the meet, they were ranked eighth in 3A. Western Dubuque placed first with 58 points, Tipton placed second with 83, and Mount Vernon/Lisbon placed third, six points behind Tipton with 89 points, and 14 teams competing.

Anna Hoffman who placed seventh overall was looking forward to the meet but felt pretty nervous because this meet determined where they are going to run for districts. For next Thursday, which is a conference meet at Williamsburg, Hoffman said, “My goal  is to try not to run into trees and keep the crowd on their toes.”

Girls varsity coach Sue Deibner was really proud of how everyone ran. With the coronavirus pandemic, Deibner was happy how the team was taking it seriously and wearing their masks right up to the starting line and putting them back on once they were done running. To prepare for conference next Thursday, Deibner said, “Practices are going to be a bit shorter so people can feel fresh for conference”.

The weather for the meet was a little warm and windy but was fairly good. There were a lot of people at the meet with a little more than half not wearing masks, except for Mount Vernon- Lisbon runners and parents. The girls who ran on varsity for the meet were Laura Swart, Anna Hoffman, Nadia Telecky, Sabrina Bleile, Laila Moellering, Anna Vavricek, and Sierra Snyder. Going into the next meet the girls are going to talk and visualize how they are going to run a great performance.
