Mustang Spirit Spectacular

The cheer team put on the first-ever Mustang Spirit Spectacular on February 1st. The team’s showcase combined all of their performances and added in a special dance for their seniors. The first act of the show was the cheer, The Mustangs are Boom Dynamite. The crowd gasped when sophomore, Kambree Hultquist, flew into the air during a basket toss. “The toss really got the crowd interested in the cheer, and it went really well,” said Hultquist.

The cheerleaders weren’t the only ones who performed though; elementary and middle schoolers got in on the action. The kids spent the day learning dances choreographed by the cheerleaders and then showed off their dance skills during the showcase. The Lisbon Dance team and Dance Arts Iowa also demonstrated their dancing abilities with multiple routines that wowed the audience.

The cheerleaders then took the floor back and performed their Football Bad Guy performance. This routine consisted of mini dances along with split stunts and a lib twist. The cheerleaders also performed a new routine to the song “Run the World” by Beyonce. The girls perfected the stunts: shooting star, assisted full, and an assisted flip. Before the last act, the showcase had senior recognition for the nine seniors leaving the program next year. The seniors then performed one last dance together to the song Come On by Kesha choreographed by senior Chloe Bunch. “I really enjoyed choreographing and teaching the other seniors the dance because it was fun to have just the seniors for our final dance,” said Bunch.

Even though it was the last Spirit Spectacular for the seniors, it was only the first for the other cheerleaders in the program.
