JV volleyball suffers close loss to Central Dewitt

Central Dewitt traveled to Mount Vernon to face off against the Mustangs. The ‘Stangs were coming off a win last Thursday and were very excited to get after Dewitt. Central Dewitt came to play and it caught Mount Vernon by surprise when they won the first set 21-15 and finished strong in the other two sets.

“Honestly we weren’t ready for them to come out and get after us like they did,” Junior Julia Wheeler said.  “We knew that we had to play harder and focus in.”

The Mustangs came out focused and ready to go. They began to gain some momentum and pull away in the middle of the set. Unfortunately, Central Dewitt called a timeout to regroup and that gave the Sabers time to dig in and come back. Even though the ‘Stangs fought hard they were still unable to come out with a win in the second set (22-20).

Once the third set rolled around the ‘Stangs were all out of energy. Coach Robin Brand called a timeout to try and get the girls’ energy back. They did what they could but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Sabers. The Mustangs fell to the Sabers in three sets, (21-15) (22-20) (15-10).

“Even though we didn’t come out right away and play the way we needed to I thought we fought well in the second set,” said Wheeler.

“Were just going to have to work harder in practice and put this loss behind us,” said Junior Anna Nydegger.
