The Mount Vernon Mustang volleyball team swept Central DeWitt Tuesday night by scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-20. Tuesday night was also Senior Night, which recognized the Mustangs five seniors this year. The five seniors are Amaya Mahoney, Caitlin Babcock, Caroline Voss, Lily Meester, and Summer Brand.

The Mustangs got off to a quick start before the Sabres could start to slow them down. They got off to a good start behind solid passing from the back row. “Our back row passed very well with their hard serves,” said junior Natalie Welch The good passing led to kills, lots of them. Mount Vernon was led by junior Lauren Schrock, who had 20 kills on the night. Schrock continues her stellar season, as she is ninth in Class 3A for kills, with 258, in only 60 sets.

Mount Vernon was just as good on the net as they were in the back row. “Our whole front row was very aggressive on the net,” Welch said. Welch led the aggressiveness on the net by leading the team with 4 solo blocks.

The Mustangs improved to 16-8 on the year and will use the Senior Night win as momentum as they travel to Waverly this weekend to compete in a challenging Waverly-Shell Rock tournament.
