The Mount Vernon Mustangs swept the Williamsburg Raiders 3-0 in their varsity homecoming game. The Mustangs won consecutive sets 25-12, 25-17, and 25-16. They started fast and never looked back.

Junior Lauren Schrock led the team with 18 kills. Schrock is currently sitting sixth in kills among 3A athletes.”Lauren has brought many strong contacts to add to our already hard hitting front line,” said junior libero Jorie Randall.

Senior Summer Brand posted an impressive 38 assists on the night. “She can make any pass a very well placed and solid set even if it isn’t right to her,” said Randall. Brand is the team’s clear cut setter as she has led the team in assists every game this year.

Junior Camryn Ellyson had eight kills with a .471 kill efficiency. “Camryn is really good at locating the ball and has such an energetic personality. She is really fun to be around,” said junior defensive specialist Rachel Axtell.

“Jorie is very encouraging and she is a very reliable teammate,” said junior Rachel Axtell. Randall led the team in digs with 10.

It was a good bounce-back win after falling to a tough Red Oak team. The Mustangs are continuously improving as the year goes on with a 15-8 record in 57 sets. The Mustangs have brought back almost all starters from last year and are looking to make a deep push in the state tournament. Next up on the schedule for the ‘Stangs is a struggling Central DeWitt squad.
