The Dramatic Life of a Target Employee

Jayden Rassmussen

Jayden Rasmussen is a teenage boy who just wants to have a little extra cash in his pocket. Jayden, a senior, is the kid you can see in the gym messing around shooting hoops on block days, but he is also the guy you can go into Target and see stocking shelves or helping others.

Rasmussen has worked at Target for eight months. Rasmussen got interested in the job over the summer when his older brother Bryce started working there and told him that he makes a decent amount of money, and all high school kids like to have a little money to spend on a variety of different things. “The more money I have, the more I can go out to eat, and the more pairs of shoes I own,” Rasmussen said.

What Rasmussen finds most enjoyable about his job is working with his older brother and his friend Clay Smith (17) Another thing Rasmussen finds enjoyable while working at Target is working on flats of groceries whether it be a flat of cereal, Gatorade or anything in between. Rasmussen has had jobs where he has had to work alone, so being able to work with other people makes him enjoy his job a lot more. Rassmussen would recommend his job to other high school students who love to work with others.

Rasmussen has worked other jobs before Target. Those jobs include working at Gary’s and preparing baseball fields in Cedar Rapids. Working at Gary’s taught him how to manage school and work without failing his classes. Rasmussen said, “I usually don’t have a lot of homework so I can get home around ten and be in bed around eleven,” which shows that even with a job, commitment to your grades, can help in the end, while earning money to spend in your free time.
