This video was created by Kelsey Kosman, Annabell Steil, Lillian Morrissey, Caroline See, Paige Beck, and Shannon Beck in the Video Documentary J-term at Mount Vernon High School that met from January 7-18, 2019.

Mount Vernon choir director Thad Wilkins has contributed immensely not only to the fine arts program but to the community as a whole since his hire in 2012. He’s continued the choir’s undefeated 40-year division I rating streak at large group competitions. Wilkins advocates for his students being well rounded and encourages his kids to participate in many extracurricular activities.

Wilkins has been the musical director for the Mount Vernon High School productions of “Footloose,” “Les Miserables,” “The Drowsy Chaperone”, and “The Little Mermaid,” many of which received honors by the Des Moines center of performing arts.

Thad Wilkins has turned a big group of kids who love to sing, into a family, which gets bigger every year. In the short seven years, he’s been here, he’s impacted hundreds of students by being a strong role model, and investing not only in their choral skills but their hearts.
