Story by Rob Sheehy
Robotics is such an engaging experience for the students that a second team was created. With the kick off of a new season in fall 2009, a game called “Hot Shot” was required to be played by the robots. It involved having a robot shooting balls into a goal. Junior Matt Peiffer said, “I thought it was fun trying to be able to shoot balls in a tall goal and off the field.”
The teams successfully created two robots. “I felt happy and excited when we had a functioning robot. It was amazing!” said senior Lynaea Kiefer. The team named The Source Bots went to three competitions in St. Louis, Cedar Rapids, and Milwaukee and won awards at each. The other team, named Operator Error, went to Cedar Rapids and Milwaukee and also won finalist awards each time.
