By Haleigh Ehmsen-
“The Hunger Games”, the first book in the trilogy by Suzanne Collins, has been the number one movie for two weeks in a row. But for some reason this fictional book, now movie, has upset adults. In a column, published by the NY Times, Susan Brooks Thistlethwaite describes the plot of the story, a reality show where children fight to the death, set in a futuristic society. She also discusses how disturbing she thinks the book is and how parents should be wary to let their children read books like “The Hunger Games”. I think someone forgot to tell her that it is a fictional book. A fictitious book is written to entertain readers. While fiction does often portray an over exaggerated reality, if it does in this book, why should kids be sheltered from a depiction of reality?
